Ballroom Marfa Supper Club presents / shed with Johnny Ortiz-Concha
Founded by Johnny Ortiz-Concha, ⁄ Shed is an ongoing meditation on where Ortiz-Concha and his partner, Maida Branch, live and are from in Northern New Mexico. Ballroom Marfa Supper Club with / Shed brings together the foods of Northern New Mexico and West Texas, following the connection between these two lands through the Rio Grande. Inspired by both places, the collaboration will also unite Ortiz-Concha's practices with food and clay.
Johnny Ortiz-Concha (b. 1991, Taos, New Mexico, lives and works in Vallecitos, New Mexico) is a ceramicist and chef, raised on Taos Pueblo land. Ortiz-Concha has worked as a chef at restaurants such as Alinea in Chicago and Saison in San Francisco. In 2020, he was recognized as a semi-finalist for Rising Star Chef of the Year Award by the James Beard Foundation. It has been in returning home to New Mexico that he has evolved his cooking and ceramics practice to a unique amalgamation of both his Tu-ah-ta and Spanish heritage and an international sensibility. His work on his farmland, cooking and ceramics come together in his dinner project / Shed, for which all of the multi-course meal is prepared with foods grown, hunted or foraged by Ortiz-Concha and his partner, Maida Branch, and the ceramic vessels are used for cooking and serving to guests. Ortiz-Concha's ceramics practice is represented by Object & Thing. In 2021, Ortiz-Concha was featured in the Creative Residencies program at SITE Santa Fe.
